Bloomberg
GSEM faculty offers GEMWeM students access to the Bloomberg platform (located in the University of Geneva). Bloomberg is widely used among practitioners and academics. It can be used to analyze, monitor and trade some of the major asset classes.
Description: Current and historical financial information on individual equities, stock market indices, fixed-income securities, currencies, commodities, and futures for both financial and domestic markets.
To introduce students to this database, two presentation are held, Spring Semester, one in Uni Mail, the other located in Bloomberg Offices.
Centre des professions finançières
The International Competition on Master’s Degree Theses on Economics and Finance is organized by the “Centre des Professions Financières”. The Competition is aiming at gathering theories from all over the world about economics and finance. Moreover, it allows students to meet professionals which is needed to foster innovation.
CFA Institute Research Challenge
"The CFA Institute Research Challenge in Switzerland is the local competition within the global CFA Institute Research Challenge (Challenge).
The Challenge is an annual competition between teams of students which consists in preparing an investment case based on a detailed research report, and a presentation on a listed Swiss company. The students will be supported by industry mentors and will have to present their final results in front of a panel of senior investment professionals. The Challenge provides students with a unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience in the investment world and to interact intensively with investment professionals and CFA charterholders."
- To participate on the Challenge, the team must be composed by min. 3 and max. 5 students
- To do this Challenge, students will do the course "The Equity Research Contest" in the University of Neuchâtel. Remarks: some courses are required: « Corporate Finance », « Financial Analysis » et « Valuation »
- The course "The Equity Research Contest" is recognized in the Program Study and is worth 3 ECTS

The program Charter comprised of a two-tier exam.
The Level I exam assesses your understanding of various alternative asset classes and your knowledge of the tools and techniques used to evaluate the risk-return attributes of each one.
The Level II exam assesses how you would apply the knowledge and analytics learned in Level I within a portfolio management context. Both levels include segments on ethics and professional conduct.
Both exams are offered in March and September at more than 300 proctored exam centers."
Level I exam has to be succeeded before doing Level II exam.
Within this Partnership, students shall be eligible to participate in CAIA's Academic Partner Program Scholarships (US$100.00).
Fondation Natixis
La Fondation NATIXIS pour la Recherche Quantitative décerne chaque année le Prix du meilleur mémoire de Master sur un sujet de finance quantitative au sens large, incluant le calcul scientifique appliqué à la finance et la modélisation des risques financiers.
La procédure de sélection comporte deux étapes. Dans un premier temps, chaque responsable de Master sélectionne le meilleur mémoire parmi ceux qui lui ont été déposés. Ensuite, le comité scientifique de la Fondation NATIXIS sélectionne le ou les lauréats.
Library GSEM

A presentation of the Library of the Geneva School in Economics and Management is organized on Semester Spring 2017. It allows the following:
- to introduce the students to the library services
- to show them how to use the databank
- to explain to them how the quotation/references of articles/books must appear on papers written/master thesis
Rotman International Trading Competition (RITC)
RITC is a two and a half day invitational event that allows teams from schools across Europe to participate in a simulated market.
Its structure is similar to the very successful Rotman International Trading Competition (RITC) held annually in Toronto, where 50 schools from around the world meet and compete in simulated markets.
The primary goal of the competition is to give students the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge to actual markets. RETC will provide a forum for students to interact with each other and learn from each others’ experiences and opinions.

Certification
SFI awards a certificate to students who have obtained at least 50% of the ECTS points necessary from courses taught by SFI faculty members.

"The SFI Knowledge Catalyst — a Swiss Finance Institute Knowledge Center initiative act as a bridge between students and industry partners and offer partners privileged access to Master‘s and PhD students from SFI Academic Partner Institutions, enrolled in Economics and Business Administration programs with a strong affiliation to finance."

“Thomson Reuters Eikon is a set of software products provided by Thomson Reuters for financial professionals to monitor and analyse financial information. It provides access to real time market data, news, fundamental data, analytics, trading and messaging tools.”
The Master offers students a training. It lasts a half of the day (morning or afternoon) on Spring Semester.
